The English along with Welsh Placed in the Same Group for 2027 Rugby World Cup Down Under

Rugby World Cup 2027 draw ceremony
The group draw was conducted by sporting legends including former All Black Dan Carter.

The English side together with their Welsh counterparts have been drawn in an identical pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a major pool stage clash in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This pairing mirrors their infamous meeting in the group phase of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at Twickenham contributed to the English team's shock group stage elimination.

Key Pool Draws

Ireland and Scotland have likewise been drawn in a group together, just as the situation from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, they secured a convincing win, with their opponents unable to advance to the knockout stages.

Los Teros and Portugal, who each impressed as underdogs in the last World Cup, complete that same group.

Significantly, the victors of these two groups are kept apart from holders and world number one the Springboks until the showpiece match, presuming the South Africans top their assigned pool.

Knockout Ramifications

Should the pools conclude in line with the current global standings, other leading contenders like the All Blacks and Les Bleus would remain separated from both the English and Ireland until the championship decider.

In that scenario, Los Pumas would be the other highly-seeded nation on that side of the elimination bracket as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Draw Blockbuster Opener

Tournament hosts the Wallabies find themselves alongside their trans-Tasman rivals and three-time winners New Zealand in Group A.

Australia will kick off the tournament in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a marquee fixture aimed at launch the event.

In other groups, reigning champions the Springboks have been paired with Italy, Georgia and the Oaks. France are in a pool with Japan, 2031 hosts the United States and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Los Pumas will face the Flying Fijians, Spain and the Canadian team as the World Cup expands to twenty-four nations from the 20 who competed in 2023.

This edition will introduce a round of 16 stage for the first time in the competition's history.

Although the winner of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the game's biggest beasts early on, they will meet the second-placed team from Group B – probably Italy – in the first knockout round.

Four of the other six pool winners will face a third-placed side from the pool stages.
