The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a major awards ceremony nears, there’s always an outcry for the addition of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case for why my demand stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise within the realm of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Where could they possibly go between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated for anything in 2014
  • Another creative title was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, while interacting with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
